Chest Freezers
Chest freezers are large capacity top-opening units often used for bulk storage of foodstuffs in a commercial catering environment. If space is limited in the actual kitchen, a chest freezer can be positioned elsewhere as it does not need to be accessed as frequently. With a chest freezer, a business can make cost savings when they buy produce like meat in bulk and freeze it for later use.
Also, being top opening they do not lose as much cold air when opened as a conventional freezer, meaning they are more economical to run. Another main benefit of a chest freezer over an upright freezer is the amount of free space available to store items of any size or shape as you are not restricted by the size of drawers or baskets. Depending on the capacity and model, some do have top baskets which lift out enabling two layers of food storage. Others are longer and less deep so all contents are immediately accessible.
If the freezer is not visible from the main working area, choose a model that is fitted with an alarm as well as a warning light to alert you if the temperature becomes too low or high.
